Overview
The annual American Association of Service Coordinators Awards of Excellence recognizes members for outstanding achievement in the practice of service coordination. Nominations offer service coordinators and others in affordable, service-enhanced housing an opportunity to be recognized for exceptional performance beyond their daily job duties.
Call for Nominations
Nominees MUST be an AASC member in good standing for at least one year and have worked in their position for at least two years. Click here for a nomination form. You may copy the form for multiple nominations; however, please use a separate form for each nominee. In addition, each nomination must include up to three letters of recommendation supporting the nominee: one letter of support from the member's manager/administrator, a letter from a resident and a letter from a service provider in the nominee's local service network. Nominations should include detailed information on how the nominee best fits each of the criteria of the award category. Please see the nomination form for more details. Entries must be postmarked by May 24, 2010. Any entries received after this date will not be considered.
The Awards Process
The Awards Committee will review nominations and select winners in May. Nominees will be notified of the results by June 11 so they can plan to attend the Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with AASC's 2010 National Service Coordinator Conference in Anaheim, California on Monday, August 30, 2010 to accept their award. Awardees will receive a fully paid registration to the conference.
Categories
Service Coordinator of the Year-Elderly/Disabled
Honors a member working with the elderly and/or disabled who:
- Demonstrates outstanding leadership in working to improve the lives of their residents and community at large in areas such as education, program development and advocacy. Nominees have also worked to build and enhance long-term relationships and partnerships within the community.
- Possesses the knowledge needed to educate residents and the community about how service coordinators can enrich their lives through effective communication skills, leadership, motivation and pride in the profession.
- Possesses the knowledge and training needed to best perform the duties of his/her position (this includes keeping current with the changes in services and programs used and/or available to his/her residents; changes in legislation affecting his/her residents and the service coordinator profession; and, maintaining the training and/or education needed to complete his/her job tasks).
- Has achieved significant or unique outcomes as a result of service coordination activities. These outcomes must be described on the nomination form.
- Is viewed by colleagues as a leader in the service coordinator profession. Viewed as a strong resource in service coordinator-related issues by coworkers, colleagues and residents.
Service Coordinator of the Year-Family/FSS
Honors a member working with families who:
- Improves residents' lives using education, program development, networking in the community and advocacy.
- Demonstrates effective and innovative ways of partnering with service agencies, schools, businesses, and others to enable low-income resident heads of households and older youth obtain employment leading toward economic independence.
- Possesses the knowledge and training needed to best perform the duties of his/her position (this includes keeping current with the changes in services and programs used and//or available to his/her residents; changes in legislation affecting his/her residents and/or the service coordinator profession; and, maintaining the training and education needed to complete his/her job tasks).
- Has achieved positive outcomes as a result of service coordination activities. These outcomes must be described on the nomination form.
- Is viewed by colleagues as a top leader in the service coordinator profession. Viewed as a strong resource in service coordinator-related issues by coworkers, colleagues and residents.
Innovations in Service Coordination Award*
Honors an achievement or program that:
- Demonstrates innovative thinking in the creation of programming that benefits the residents/clients and the outside community and is able to demonstrate positive benefits of the programming to the residents/clients/facility/organization and/or community.
- Creates better relationships between residents, staff and the community at large.
- Goes beyond simply assisting residents with community services.
*Note: This award can be given to a service coordinator, property manager, facility or organization for their innovative approach to providing service coordination. All nominees must be AASC members in good standing.
President's Award
This award is given by the AASC President to a member who, in the opinion of the President, is deserving of recognition for his/her work in the service coordinator profession. The award winner is chosen from the pool of Awards of Excellence nominees. It is given at the discretion of the President with recommendations from the AASC Awards Committee and may not be given every year.
