2009 AASC Awards of Excellence
The Awards of Excellence are a way to recognize members who go above and beyond the call of duty by utilizing extra time, effort, creativity and skill in their position as a service coordinator. The 2009 awards were presented during the Awards Luncheon, held Monday, September 21 from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Congratulations to this year's winners. You are all shining representations of the faculty of service coordination to truly make a difference.

President’s Award – Deborah Evans
Bannock Arms/AIMCO, Boise, ID
The AASC President's Award is the highest honor bestowed on a service coordinator, given to someone who serves as the best example of diligence, drive and care that has come to define our profession. This year's award goes to service coordinator Deborah Evans, who goes above and beyond her duties as a service coordinator through her dedication to finding innovative and unique programs and services for her elderly and disabled residents.
Service Coordinator of the Year (Elderly and Disabled) – Dianne Freeman
Lions Senior Village, Residential Properties Management, Inc., Shelby, NC
The Service Coordinator of the Year (Elderly and Disabled) Award winner strives to improve the lives of his/ her elderly and disabled residents through leadership and devotion to providing quality education, program development, networking in the community and advocacy. This year's award goes to service coordinator Dianne Freeman, who transcends her daily job duties by working to meet the needs of her residents through innovative program development and community networking.
Service Coordinator of the Year (Family/FSS) – Kathy Breen
Assisi Homes-Batavia Apartments/Franciscan Ministries, Batavia, IL
The Service Coordinator of the Year (Family/FSS) Award winner strives to improve the lives of his/her family residents through leadership and devotion in providing quality education, program development, advocacy and networking with service agencies, businesses, schools and others. This year's award goes to Resident Service Coordinator Kathy Breen, who diligently works to partner with the Batavia, Illinois community to bring quality services and programs to help the families at Batavia Apartments further their education, careers and lives.
Best Overall Service Coordinator Program – Joyce Cummings
Tanner Terrace, Inc., Phoenix, AZ
The Best Overall Service Coordinator Program Award honors an achievement or program that not only demonstrates innovation and creativity in helping to meet the needs of a property's residents but also improves the relationship between the residents, staff and the community. This year's award goes to service coordinator Joyce Cummings, whose engagement with community service providers, government agencies and residents has resulted in the development of the Tanner Terrace Well-Aging Project, a successful program that brings a holistic approach to the challenges experienced by the elderly and disabled residents of Tanner Terrace.
